Highlights from the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva

This week I have had the opportunity to be at the UN Palais des Nations in Geneva, attending three major events, as the 60th ordinary session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) begins.

On 8 September 2025, I participated in a side-event organised by the Permanent Mission of the DR Congo to the UN in Geneva.

On 9 September 2025, I participated in the HRC Enhanced interactive dialogue on the DRC, during which reports on the DR Congo from the High Commissioner on Human Rights on the Facts Finding Mission and the Team of International Experts on the DR Congo were presented and discussed by delegates from member states and civil society organisations.

Participating in these events on 8 and 9 September 2025 gave me an opportunity to meet and discuss with some decision-makers and key stakeholders in the transitional justice processes in the DR Congo: the new Minister of Human Rights in the DRC, the Minister of Communication and Spokesman of the DRC Government, the new Minister of Justice in the DRC, the DRC Ambassador to the UN in Geneva, the President of the UN International Team of Experts on the DRC, the UN Special Rapporteur on transitional justice, Bernard Duhaime, and other UN Officials and partners.

On 10 September 2025, I participated in the 13th edition of the Geneva PeaceTalks on the theme “Peace is Possible”. The event was organised by Interpeace, Geneva Peacebuilding Platform and the UN Office at Geneva. I shared with the organisers a note on the role that transitional justice can and should play in the restoration and consolidation of peace in the DRC. Peace is Possible in the DRC as well!

Outside the Palais des Nations, the beauty of the city of Geneva is always enjoyable.
